About Treenion
Treenion is a non-profit, free-to-use website for families who want to build their family tree – their Tree of Life – together and keep the stories that came down to them.
The name and the address
The site is called Treenion, and its home on the web is treenion.com – that is the address of the project, and the only one it uses. You will also meet two other names: Tree of Life is what we call the tree a family grows here, and Family Tree is simply what it is; both are used alongside Treenion when the site is introduced to people. Whichever of the names brought you here, it is one and the same free, non-profit place: Treenion, at treenion.com.

Why it exists
Every family has someone who remembers – and every family loses that person one day. The names of great-grandparents, the village they came from, the story of how they survived a war or crossed a border: these live in a few heads, and go with them. Tree of Life exists so that a family can write these things down together, while the people who remember are still here to be asked.
What we promise
Free, for everyone
There is no paid plan, and there will never be a wall between you and your own tree.
Non-profit
Nobody makes money here. There are no ads, and nothing you enter is sold or handed to anyone.
Your data is yours
Your family decides who may read its tree. New trees are private; opening them is a choice, and every person and member can keep to themselves.
Built by agreement
No single person can rewrite a family's history. Changes are confirmed by the others, and what was there before can be brought back.
Who is behind it
Treenion is an independent volunteer project, built and kept running in spare time, without a company or an investor behind it. It grows the same way the trees on it do: because people care to add to it.
